Mula...I was there for that talk! Just saying...

Mula bandha is quite a process, he did a wonderful job of articulating that. Although I think that probably speaking, it is not this tension itself that is mula bandha, but its effects on the pelvic floor that give rise to the chain reaction that results in the activation of mula bandha in the pelvis.

Hmm... come to think of it, maybe this is what you were trying to say in the first place, in less words! Oh well... From Samasthiti (grounding the feet to extend the spine) to seated postures (flexing the straight leg to extend the spine), that movement generates a sort of tension in the pelvic area that's more energetic than muscular. I feel it most in dropbacks, in the inhale and extension before arching back. He says that what he says in this video about contracting the anus is actually geared more towards beginning students, who are just beginning to try to grasp the "layout" of the pelvic floor. For them, talking about contracting the anus is a useful way to start thinking about mula bandha. But he does say later in the same workshop (not captured on this video) that as practice progresses, one can access mula bandha more subtly, and one would not need to rely so much on the outside muscles.

Yes, all this is definitely very exciting stuff ;-)Nobelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00655577410721103577noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1449952380128375575.post-13861153945832676832012-09-28T13:28:57.639-07:002012-09-28T13:28:57.639-07:00HI Nobel, I think it's called 'vajroli mud...HI Nobel, I think it's called 'vajroli mudra' when you contract the front muscles of the front part. I agree with you about the contraction of the anus. It's definitely a contraction of the anus but not a gross contraction of the sphincter, it's more subtle than that, further up the anal tract. It's all very exciting experimenting with it!!Micquihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06805452096378023748noreply@blogger.com
